DURAN® glass filter crucibles have a wide range of applications in quantitative analysis. They are particularly suitable for precipitates which need to be dried to a constant weight. After careful cleaning, the filter crucible quickly reaches a constant weight at 110°C, as the water remaining evaporates. After filtration the moist precipitate is placed in the DURAN® glass filter crucible in the hot drying cabinet at a temperature up to 150°C where it is dried to a constant weight.
Depending on the method of determination, it can be cooled by exposure to air or in a desiccator. To calcine a precipitate, the crucible is placed in a cold oven, which then can be heated up to a maximum of 500°C. After the oven has been switched off, the crucible should be allowed to cool down to about 200°C in the oven.
